Who are these Guys ??
Atlanta Georgia
TGWG"SM"
Hello all....
This is Rog (Other Guy). While building this web site, we thought it would be a good idea to at least introduce ourselves to all of you fine people who have entered our web site....come to our gigs, and supported us for so long now.
Russ Powell (One Guy) and I have been playing music together for quite some time now. One of the reasons for this is the fact we don't give each other any "flack", no whining, no complaining, and no ego issues. We both have played in many bands and this is a major reason for bands splitting up. TGWG"SM" works because it is "fun" with no hassles and it seems to project to the crowd. We are a "jam" band and never play a song the same way twice. It just happens, and that's the way we like it. We'll, enough of that.
My family and I first moved to Atlanta in 1995 from Cocoa Beach Florida due to the age old problem (finding work). I have been in the communications industry for over 20 years and Atlanta seemed to be the hot bed of activity so we "loaded up the truck" and we "moved to Beverly"...as they say. I have a beautiful family, Vickie (we've been married for 21 years), daughter Christina (age 18), and daughter Angela (age 16). I have been blessed with a wonderful family. Ok, let's not get to sappy, we all can be a "pain in the ass" when we want to....
I bought my first guitar when I was 16 at a pawn shop in Richmond Virginia, my good buddy Mike McCormick was with me at the time. I think I paid $50 bucks for it and it seemed like it was every cent I had. (It was). I just wanted to be a guitar player. We'll 30 years later I still "just want to be a guitar player". I have improved somewhat since the first time I plugged in my first electric guitar and ran all the family and animals out of the house.
Well, I picked and grinned a little and was never serious until I turned 36. I came home one day and told my wife Vickie that I was going to really stick to it this time and I did. One of my fondest memories was camping almost every weekend at Long Point State Park in Sebastian Inlet Florida. I spent countless hours around the campfire with the old 12 string (which I have had for going on 30 years now) and some of my closest friends, Hawk, Carla, Stewart & Deanne ,Todd, Rex & Diane and many, many more. Music has a way to bring people together, I guess that is why I enjoy it so much. I had no idea the guitar could give me so much satisfaction and joy and the effort was well worth it now that I look back. I truly enjoy writing original music and we incorporate some of these tunes in TGWG"SM" as you may be aware..(Beans and Cornbread anyone?)
The bands I have been in (to many to count), the bars and clubs (some I would like to forget and man do we musicians have some stories for you!) are to many to count.
I guess the bottom line here is , if your lucky enough to be passionate about anything, your bound to do well at it...at any age.
January 2001 issue. (This is a PDF file so you must have a PDF viewer like Adobe).
When time permits, I will do a better job on this introduction...
Thanks again for all the support and we look forward to seeing you all "One Mo' Time" at our next gig.
Rog
